Surprise! No foundation review today!

Time seems to have eluded me and I’ll be continuing the foundation review tomorrow. I was in the middle of working on it earlier, even in a hot car during the afternoon, avidly typing away as I built the relationship between my two thumbs and my phone. I don’t want to post anything too late and this is honestly too late of a time for a review.

So … I’m going to blog about my day today.

On Teeth

I woke up around 10 AM and got everyone ready to go to the dentist. I need to get a second opinion on whether I need a crown or not and I have to get a deep cleaning (as in under the gums cleaning) done. I usually go to this fancy-schmancy place in Buckhead but I honestly feel like they are out to rip me off. The dental hygienist didn’t find anything wrong with my teeth while she was cleaning them three months ago, but when the dentist came in to check on my teeth, he immediately said that I needed a crown. On the paper they listed, it said three crowns. Holy shit. So either the hygienist missed it or he’s out for my money. The dentist also recommended that I get a deep cleaning and that I can understand. My mom got periodontal disease and I am doing my best to keep my teeth healthy. One of my lower incisors’ gum area is a little puffy (inflamed) so I have to get it checked out. I’ve wanted braces for the longest time because the way my teeth are positioned make me prone to biting the inside of my mouth, etc. I also want a straight, perfect smile (which is also why you never see me smile with an open smile). When I get my braces, hopefully within a few months, I’ll be getting them from Dr. Paul Yurfest, the best in the Southeast and one of the premier orthodontists in the US.

I went to this other dentist for the second opinion and it turns out that they were closed on Tuesdays, just my luck. I got a call from my mother to pick up two watermelons and to get milk for when she babysits Jackson tomorrow. We ended up eating at Smashburger (which I’ve been craving for quite a while). We headed to the RadioShack next door to pick up a cable I needed and we ended up at Best Buy. We didn’t find anything we wanted so we left and went to get the watermelons at G-Mart. It used to be the old neighborhood Publix but it has since then been converted to a myriad of different supermarkets throughout the years. We left and went to Kroger to pick up my prescription, contacts lenses solution (I finally found the one with bubbles!!), and chocolate of course.

Horizon Organic Milk

I don’t know if you guys have ever heard of Horizon organic milk but that is the best milk I have tasted thus far. It has a slightly bluish hue and it tastes like creamy heaven (if it were ever creamy). My mom converted me to it about a month ago and it’s the only type of milk I get for Jackson nowadays. I couldn’t find the 1-gallon version so I had to settle for the half-gallon. I think everyone should at least try it because it tastes so good.

Big Lots

I went to Big Lots today and I had no idea that they sold furniture! That’s crazy! I haven’t been there since I was six so it was an interesting experience.

Before I Call it a Night

When I got home, I cleaned up the place, vacuumed, did laundry and we went swimming afterwards. I think the community should invest in one of those swimming pool robots that vacuum because we really need one. I have work tomorrow (I open) so hopefully I get a good start on finishing the Dior foundation review. Now that I think about it, I feel quite famished. I’m going to drag myself downstairs to cook some tomato parmesan pasta before playing Far Cry 3 with Pete before calling it a night. I’ve been waiting for these two off days all week so I’m glad I got some much deserved R&R. Also, I messed up on laundry today so despite all the white sheets coming out spotless, my favorite pair of legging jeans from GAP (in the material that is actually discontinued) got crayoned. I guess I’ll have to stop by at GAP tomorrow.

After the foundation review marathon, I’ll post photos of the new shoes I got about two weeks ago. Thank you for all of your support and all the new subscriptions this past week which have really inspired me to continue writing no matter what. Have a good night everyone!

On My Skin and Why I’m Searching for the Perfect Foundation

I have always had problem skin. It’s dry, flaky, red, blotchy, and sensitive (if not more). My skin has always been an issue since I was a child and I’ve been on the search for products and treatments to acquire a sense of calm when it comes to my skin.

After many years of searching, I’ve found skin care products that seem to be working. I could find something better in the future but I am content with my Kiehl’s products at the moment. However, I am still looking for foundation makeup. The perfect foundation to be exact.

First off, I’m writing this blog post before I kick off my marathon of foundation reviews on what my personal goals are and what I’m looking for in a foundation. The foundations I’ll be reviewing will hopefully lead me to one that is perfect for normal to dry skin types (although some of the foundations I tried turned out to be more for combination to oily skin types!). I feel that it was always easier for someone with an oily skin type or a normal skin type to find the “perfect” foundation. I think more products in the cosmetics industry are geared towards combating wrinkles and excessive shine. In all my ten years of wearing countless brands and formulations of foundation, I think it’s been hard for us drier girls.

Dry skin types need hydration, moisturization, a more luminous finish (to make up for the lack of oils), a foundation that won’t emphasize our dry, flaky patches (that we try so desperately to hide) when it sets, a foundation that will cover any blemishes and redness, a foundation that will allow us to feel normal, even if it’s just for a few hours of a day. I don’t think all normal-to-dry skin types suffer from the same conditions that I’ve listed in the beginning of this post, but those are just the things I deal with every day.

Oilier skin types, don’t be deterred from trying on any foundations I’ll be reviewing. I may not be able to powder as often as I like, but oilier skin types definitely can (just make sure to wash it all off at the end of the day).

Guerlain’s Lingerie de Peau foundation review is coming tomorrow and I really hope you guys enjoy the foundation review marathon. We have about 8 foundations to review but I may pick up some more samples and keep the reviews coming. I’ll do my best to keep my reviews thorough and I’ll keep all skin types’ needs in mind. You don’t have to be a dry skin type to enjoy these foundations as I’ll include tips and tricks for the normal-to-oily users, you just have to love foundation.

Super excited! See you all tomorrow!
